This causes a cycle of updates throughout the world for the masses, and forces all developers to update to Windows Vista. Perhaps Microsoft's Channel 9 has a different reason, but I'd doubt even that. That do the same thing with other stuff for Vista, DirectX 10 for example will not be available for XP.
